The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR or DAR) is a non-profit, non-political, volunteer women's service organization dedicated to promoting patriotism, preserving American history, and securing America's future through better education.

The Chief Whatcom Chapter NSDAR is proud to have provided more than a century of enthusiastic and continuous patriotic service in the northwest-most corner of the nation.  Our chapter undertakes its multi-faceted mission faithfully, taking the NSDAR theme to heart - "Moving Forward in Service to America!"  Welcome to our website.

The chapter celebrated its 100th anniversary on May 12, 2012.  Mrs. Effie Ebey Roeder established the chapter in 1912.  Chief Whatcom Chapter NSDAR has steadfastly worked for a century to “Preserve the Past, Enhance the Present, and Invest in the Future through historic preservation and community service.”

HISTORIc PRESERVATION

EDUCATION

While each individual "Daughter" has direct roots that tie directly back to the American Revolution, the scope of historic preservation is broad.  Efforts include commemorations and memorials, the restoration of historic sites like the Pickett House in Bellingham, and the preservation of records, artifacts, and historical documents.

COMMUNITY SERVICE

Patriotism goes well beyond saying the Pledge of Allegiance and standing for the presentation of our country's flag.  We honor and support local veterans organizations through donation drives, devoting one meeting day annually to direct participation in local Memorial Day events.
Just two examples of the chapter's educational activities are the annual placement of our Constitution Month exhibit in local public libraries, and conducting an annual high- school student essay competition for the local DAR Good Citizens Award.

GENEALOGY

We offer genealogy programs throughout the year to assist those interested in learning about the many avenues open to researching family history.  We are happy to provide advice and one-on-one assistance to those interested in joining NSDAR and the chapter with preparation of their applications.
